Zoey Frank, Palimpsests: MFA Thesis Exhibition

Arena 1 Gallery

May 10th – 21st, 2014

I am pleased to announce that I am finishing my Masters of Fine Arts at Laguna College of Art and Design. My thesis exhibition is an opportunity for you to see a group of new paintings that emerged from my explorations over the past two years. In this work, I use mundane environments that change on a daily basis to explore of the process of painting. I engage in a direct encounter with my subjects in an effort to record the temporal transformation that takes place. The questions posed by these environments revolve around formal issues of color relationships, value structure, non-liner perspective, and pictorial space. Various states of the paintings remain visible in the final pieces, creating a palimpsestic record of my decision-making process. I look forward to your company — wine and hors d’oevres will be served. Opening Reception 6-9pm.

After my show, I will be moving to the Bay Area and preparing for my upcoming exhibitions, held in September and October at Haynes Galleries in Thomaston ME, Nashville, TN.
