Sikander, fine art nude photography

I formally learnt photography fresh out of high school, as I was transitioning into adulthood. I have used the medium of self-portraiture to explore the world within and around me ever since. My external environment infiltrates my self-portraits through my use of found objects and found images, betraying a range of influences from per-historic art to the photographs of William Eggleston. My mental landscape unravels on to my photographs through digital post-processing. When I reach the limits of my own body’s expressivity I turn my camera towards the bodies of others, and invite them into the process of creating images with me.

I choose bodies to photograph based on the ideas that I explore, so they might be of any gender, color, size or age. Sometimes the results are political, sometimes they offer social commentary, and at other times they can be introspective examinations of the human condition. These explorations have taken the form of still and moving digital images as well as various material forms from miniature metal prints to high-resolution, life-size canvases, and three-dimensional origami objects folded from digital prints.

I have been fortunate to have had my images exhibited in India and the US, and featured on websites and in magazines. Some of these are:
