Petra Beeking, brushy figure paintings from Germany

As a sequel to her drawings, Petra Beeking, who was born in East Germany in 1965, also deals with the human figure in her medium-sized acrylic paintings.

In increasingly non-defined and pure painterly spaces, the figure takes on a presence that is difficult to ascertain. The images are transported by a quietness, which tilts back and forth between what is familiar and what is unknown. The “ideal world” ambience transforms into a threatening situation. The figures and heads appear to be unfinished, and scenes appear to be fragmentary. This illustrates what the artist is searching for: a human dimension behind the stories.
