J.J. Foley was born in 1957, in Baton Rouge, LA. From there she moved with her family all over the country until they settled in Pass Christian, Mississippi in 1972. In 1977, she married Rick Foley and received her BFA from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1980.
They moved to Long Beach, Mississippi, where they raised five children. Ms. Foley continued to work as an artist while staying at home with the children. Now that the children are grown, J. J. is working in her studio full time. She and Rick currently live in Pass Christian, MS.
“From my earliest memories, I have drawn, and my subjects were always people. It has been a lifelong fascination, my love of the beauty inherent in every person.
It is my hope that this is what comes through in my paintings and that in some way people will be conscious not so much of what society calls beautiful, but the kind of beauty that comes from the uniqueness we hold. I have never found anything in nature as lovely.”
