Vincent Vergone, figurative sculpture from France

Having started an early career as a sculptor, I quickly turned my attention away from the worries of selling my sculptures by the usual paths, seeking instead to bring it to the public on the sidelines. Then I asked myself the question of movement in sculpture and the need to animate. I then turned to the performing arts. I mounted the Praxinoscope company and directed many shows, combining a moving work in music and contemporary poetry. Seeking a sensitive and profound encounter with the public and refusing any compromise on the modern stereotype, I continued research primarily focused on light, which led me to experimental cinema. At the same time, I continued studio work in a personal search, an attempt to access an internal depth through an exploration of the face.

The various facets of my work are nevertheless linked by a consistent approach: research of a poetic relationship to the world. The art for me responds to the need for profound questions about our relationship to the world and existence. In this regard, the work of Giacometti is my lighthouse.

Apres avoir commencé tres tot une carriere de sculpteur, je me suis rapidement detourné du souci de vendre mes sculptures par les chemins habituels, cherchant plutot d’aller à la rencontre de publics souvent en marge. Je me posais alors la question du mouvement dans la sculpture et de la necessité de l’animer. Je me suis alors tourné vers le spectacle vivant, dans des formes qui s’apparentent à des performances de plasticien. J’ai monté la compagnie Praxinoscope et réalisé de nombreux spectacles, associant un travail plastique et de la musique et de la poesie contemporaine. Cherchant une rencontre sensible et profonde avec le public et refusant tout compromis quant aux stereotypes de la modernité, j’ai poursuivi une recherche principalement axe sur la lumiere, qui m’a conduit jusqu’au cinema experimental. Parallelement, j’ai poursuivi mon travail d’atelier dans une recherche personnelle, une tentative d’acceder à une profondeur interieure au travers d’une exploration du visage.

Les diverses facettes de mon travail sont pourtant reliées par une demarche coherente : la recherche d’une relation poetique au monde. L’art répond pour moi à la nécessité d’un questionnement profond sur notre rapport au monde et à l?existence. A cet egard, l’ouvre de Giacometti est pour moi un phare.
