The opening of ‘Kalpana — Masterpieces of Indian Contemporary Paintings’ and ‘Religions of India’, took place on Monday, May 24 at The Lionel Wendt Gallery, Colombo, Sri Lanka.

 
Why choose to exhibit figurative art?
According to critics, figurative art has been an inherent part of the Indian aesthetic sensibility and has a hoary past that precedes Mohenjodaro and Harappa. Within this diverse body of extant work, the human figure in its myriad variations has been central to this unbroken continuum of the visual arts from the cave paintings in Bhimbetka to the present day.
