James Butler cheesed off with dislike for figurative art

James Butler RA, who has exhibited in the annual exhibition every year since 1960, said he was “cheesed off” that one of his sculptures had been placed in a little-visited stairwell. Butler, 79, thought the decision betrayed a dislike for figurative art – in which people or objects are portrayed in a straightforward manner – among some people at the RAA, Royal Academy of Art, London.
