About FigurativeArtists.org
Enjoy our first figurative art slide show, launched Aug 8, 2010

Welcome! Come and wander around our creative playground and visit over 500 talented artists who have joined this FREE online directory of figurative artists.

The passion for representing the human form is what unifies these artists. You will find every technique and medium imaginable, every style and approach, serene to amusing and everything in between. Where else will you find small, medium and big city artists rubbing shoulders with giants like John Singer Sargent and Steven Assael?

Think of this as a museum of figurative art. Come and visit at your own speed, knowing that the page order will not be changed or check out our alphabetical listing.

My promise to the viewer:
We feature great figurative artists with great websites. There are many wonderful artists who could have been here but adequate web presence could not be found or they declined.

My promise to the artist:
Your email address will never be shared.
I'll probably only email you only a few times a year.
Your name and image will be credited and linked to your site every time.

How did this site come to be?
I'm Paula O'Brien, a visual artist just starting my journey as a figurative painter. I live in small town in British Columbia and am fortunate to travel quite a bit. This site has sprung from my desire to explore the many exciting figurative artists that I have personally come across in either my travels or through art magazines and libraries. Realizing that many would never have the same opportunity to wander the Prado, spend time at the London or Madrid Contemporary Art Fairs, I set out to gather these exciting artists up under one roof like a giant Art Fair but without the hassle of losing your baggage at the airport! Almost all artists included here are still breathing but a few treasures from the past are tossed in too.

This free site is a random act of kindness that works to promote contemporary figurative artists and craftsmen anywhere in the world. Clicking on an artists's name or image delivers intriguing, impressive figurative art.

If you enjoy this site, please pass it on to others and put a link on your site or blog. Bookmark your page. As page order doesn't change, when you come back, you'll pick up where you left off. You can also print out a poster or postcard and put it up in your corner of the world.

Sit back and wander through our studios. Come and visit us or join us soon.

Yours sincerely
Paula O'Brien

These artists are from my local region, British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. We're just a 40 minute ferry ride from Vancouver, just enough time to have a coffee, chat, snooze or a stroll around the deck. Come and visit us sometime!

“Picasso was the first person to produce figurative paintings which overturned the rules of appearance; he suggested appearance without using the usual codes, without respecting the representational truth of form, but using a breath of irrationality instead, to make representation stronger and more direct; so that form could pass directly from the eye to the stomach without going through the brain.” Francis Bacon
